Emily Sadler, Elementary Programs Coordinator

EmilyI am a recent arrival to Louisville. I'm enjoying getting to know Louisville and all that this eclectic and gracious city has to offer. A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, I went to Boston University for my undergraduate degree in Anthropology. I spent a semester in Paris studying French and working at Centre Sociale Didot-Broussais in the 14th arrondissement, followed by some time as an au pair in the Netherlands. Before graduating in May 2008, I interned at a community health organization in Boston with their HIV and STD prevention outreach program. My senior year, I worked for an organization that supplied relocation agencies across the country with cross-cultural training and material. I was looking through some of my old journals the other day and found a list of requirements for my ideal job: interacting with at least one new person every day, having some ownership of work projects, and learning about other cultures. It hit me that at Arcadia Community Center, I had found all of that and much more. I hadn’t predicted the personal relationships with the kids and families here, relationships that would become the most satisfying part of my job. I love working in the after-school program at Arcadia Community Center because I know that children have as much to teach us as we do them.
