Jennifer Hurley, Executive Director

JenI think it is the energy and spirit of this very special place that initially drew my attention to Arcadia. You can feel it every day in the air when so many people of all ages and such vastly different cultures and language groups come together and share their experiences, wisdom and enthusiasm for learning. The wonderful leadership that has graced these walls before me planted an amazing seed, a re-creation of the old communities of our past where neighbors know each other, help each other, and at the core, have this center where they come together to learn, but more importantly, to teach about the truly important things in life like family and laughter and the perseverance of the human spirit. I suppose my love of service is stamped on my soul, for even as a child my mother directed me in always remembering to take time out to help others and to recognize in each person I meet the common humanness we all share. I am fortunate to come to Arcadia with a service-focused undergraduate education from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as well as, seven years of working experience in the social services arena both here in Louisville at Seven Counties Services Inc. and Catholic Charities, and in Western Kentucky in Hopkinsville at Pennyrile Allied Community Services. I have been blessed with some amazing teachers through my work at these agencies where in supervisors and the families I had the pleasure of serving have offered me invaluable tools to serve as my guide in leadership, understanding and most importantly, humility. I hope to continue to honor the important lessons my guides have shared with me over the years, and in turn, to try to live out this ideology each day here at Arcadia. I thank our Board of Directors, the staff, and most importantly, the residents of the Arcadia community for entrusting me with this immense opportunity. Arcadia has a bright future, and with the continued help of all of our community partners, supports and volunteers, we will continue to shine.
