Recognize Photography Exhibit
University of Louisville's University Club
March 19th, 2009

A product of Arcadia Community Center's 2008 summer camp, the "Recognize" exhibit reflects the work of 25 refugee teens. Over six weeks last summer, the teens worked with local artists and photographers to learn how to take pictures that reflect their personal identiy beyond the superficial lables assigned to them every day by broader society. By participating in this project, the teens learned not only the art of photography and image composition, but also how to express that they are more than just "refugees" or "Muslim" or "African" -- they are also dancers, brothers, sisters, friends, crazy, silly, smart . . . and so on.
A huge thanks to everyone that made this project and exhibit possible! Especially CABOWABOW, Fire Protection Services Inc, Murphy's Camera, and all the artists who spent their time with our kids.
The exhibit is still available for public display, and the Arcadia Community Center is looking for potential sites. If you or your organization is interested in displaying the work of these amazing kids, please contact Jennifer Hurley at (502) 375 1819 or arcadia@insightbb.com.
